Feeling Stuck in Artistic Process? This is For You! - Eye of My Camera

Feeling Stuck in Artistic Process? This is For You!

Hi everyone! As of right now, I am working on my AP 2D Art & Design portfolio, so I cannot post any of those photos until the submission date in May. I am hoping to share some photos outside of the class soon during winter break!

Today, I want to talk about feeling stuck when pursuing art. This is how I feel right now. My series is progressing, but I feel as though that I have to redo every piece multiple times until I receive the outcome I want. I feel as thought my artistic process is progressing slower than ever, and I feel a pressure to quicken my pace since there is a deadline for this portfolio.

My teacher reccomends I switch my topic, but I do not want to do that. The topic (you guys will see in May!), is meaningful to me, and is something that I know will be rewarding when I see the final result.

This is what I am going to do moving forward: focus on one piece at a time, set reasonable deadlines for myself, and continute working on my series even if I feel unmotivated.

Some tips I use myself when feeling unmotivated but needing to persevere is to go on pinterest or youtube and look at other artists work. If this doesn’t work, I like to grab my sketchbook, and sketch how I envision my final piece to look. This gives my brain a tangible goal to look at, which allows my motivation to increase when I can see what I am working towards.

I hope this helps those who are in the same boat. This happens to every artist, and I am glad I can share this experience and provide my own insight.

On the contact page, you can email me to ask any questions or tell your own stories when feeling stuck! I would love to read them.
